MINI-SURVEY: WHICH LEADERSHIP TRAITS DO EMPLOYEES VALUE MOST IN THEIR LEADERS IN 2025?
This weekend, I felt the timing was right to conduct a small (unscientific) survey among my international network on which leadership traits employees value most in their leaders in 2025. I did not expect this, but received responses from more than 170 connections.

The responses paint a clear picture that employees are seeking specific leadership traits that align with the evolving workplace dynamics and their personal expectations. Key among these sought-after traits are:
Hope and Trust: A significant majority of employees identify hope and trust as primary needs from their leaders. Leaders who inspire optimism and demonstrate reliability foster a positive and motivating work environment.
Empathy: Understanding and sharing the feelings of employees is crucial. Empathetic leaders create a sense of psychological safety, making team members feel valued and supported, which enhances performance and loyalty.
Adaptability: The rapid pace of technological and organizational change requires leaders who are flexible and can navigate uncertainty effectively. Adaptable leaders guide their teams through transitions with resilience and foresight.
**Commitment to Continuous Learning: **Leaders dedicated to their own and their team's ongoing development are highly valued. This commitment ensures that the organization remains competitive and that employees feel their growth is supported.
**Inclusivity: **Promoting diversity and fostering an inclusive environment where all voices are heard and respected is a critical trait. Inclusive leaders enhance collaboration and innovation within their teams.
Transparency: Open and honest communication builds trust and aligns the team with the organization's goals. Transparent leaders demystify decision-making processes, which fosters a culture of trust and accountability.
**Courage: **The ability to make difficult decisions and take calculated risks is essential. Courageous leaders address challenges head-on and inspire confidence within their teams.
These traits collectively contribute to a leadership style that resonates with employees' desires for a supportive, dynamic, and ethical workplace.
Leaders embodying these qualities are more likely to cultivate engaged, loyal, and high-performing teams and thereby sustainable organizations, sustainable strategic partnerships, and sustainable businesses.
